Jan 16: In a significant recognition of India’s growing self-reliance in defence technology, the D4 Counter-Drone System and the Dharashakti Integrated Electronic Warfare (EW) System have been conferred with the prestigious SKOCH Award in the Gold Category. The award highlights the excellence of indigenous innovation and the crucial role of advanced defence systems in safeguarding national security.

The D4 Counter-Drone System has been designed and developed by four premier laboratories of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) — Electronics & Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences (CHESS), and Instruments Research & Development Establishment (IRDE). The system is capable of detecting, tracking, and neutralising hostile drones, addressing one of the most critical emerging threats in modern warfare and homeland security.

The Dharashakti Integrated EW System, developed by DLRL in collaboration with IRDE and Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), represents a major leap in India’s electronic warfare capabilities. The system is designed to enhance situational awareness and provide a decisive edge by countering adversary communication and radar networks across the spectrum.

The SKOCH Award jury recognised these systems for their technological sophistication, operational relevance, and contribution to strengthening India’s defence preparedness. The Gold Category honour underscores DRDO’s sustained efforts in developing cutting-edge, mission-ready solutions aligned with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Officials noted that indigenous systems like D4 and Dharashakti not only reduce dependence on foreign technology but also ensure adaptability to India’s unique operational requirements. Their successful development through inter-laboratory collaboration reflects the strength of India’s defence research ecosystem.

The recognition comes at a time when evolving security challenges demand advanced counter-drone and electronic warfare solutions. With these award-winning systems, DRDO continues to play a pivotal role in equipping India’s armed forces with state-of-the-art technologies to address both conventional and asymmetric threats.
