JUNE 05: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary held a series of meetings with various public delegations and individuals at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, reaffirming the government’s commitment to addressing employee concerns and organizational issues in a structured manner.
Among the prominent delegations was a team from the Handicrafts and Handloom Department, led by Riyaz ud Din, President of the All J&K Handicrafts Employees Union. The group presented several pressing matters concerning the welfare of employees in the department. A key topic discussed was the ongoing process regarding the merger of the Handicrafts and Handloom Departments, which has seen delays in finalizing modalities and administrative adjustments.
The delegation emphasized their support for the government’s decision to merge the two departments, viewing it as a positive step toward organizational efficiency and better service delivery. However, they urged the Deputy Chief Minister to intervene and expedite the pending procedural formalities. They expressed concern over the prolonged uncertainty affecting employees and operations.
Later, a separate delegation from the Labour Union also met with Deputy CM Choudhary. The union representatives highlighted a range of issues affecting laborers and employees across different sectors, including delayed benefits, lack of proper infrastructure, and need for updated welfare schemes.
Deputy Chief Minister Choudhary gave a patient and attentive hearing to all visiting groups. He acknowledged the concerns raised and assured the delegations that their genuine grievances would be addressed in a phased and time-bound manner. “Employee welfare is a top priority for this administration. We are committed to resolving issues through dialogue and action,” he stated.
Choudhary also directed concerned officials to compile detailed reports on the matters raised and initiate follow-up steps for redressal. He emphasized the importance of regular engagement between government representatives and employees to ensure transparency and responsive governance.
The meetings marked a constructive day of public interaction at the Civil Secretariat, highlighting the government’s willingness to listen to grassroots concerns and promote administrative reforms through collaboration. Delegation members welcomed the Deputy CM’s assurance and expressed hope for timely implementation of resolutions.
