MAY 30: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary conducted a detailed inspection of the ongoing construction works at Government Medical College (GMC) Udhampur, located in the Bailey area, and reviewed the pace and quality of the project. Expressing concern over project delays and underlining the importance of healthcare infrastructure for the region, the Deputy CM issued firm directions to the Public Works Department (PWD) to expedite the execution and ensure the project is completed by July 2025.

To meet this revised deadline, the Deputy CM instructed PWD officials to implement double-shift work schedules with immediate effect. He emphasized that adhering to quality standards must be non-negotiable and called for frequent quality inspections during all phases of the construction. Strict timelines, detailed monitoring, and accountability mechanisms were stressed as essential to keeping the project on track.

Surinder Choudhary reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding medical education and healthcare access in Udhampur and surrounding districts. Once completed, GMC Udhampur is expected to serve as a major medical hub, reducing dependency on Jammu for tertiary healthcare services and providing local opportunities for aspiring medical students.

During the site visit, the Deputy CM interacted with engineers, contractors, and PWD officials, urging them to take ownership of the project’s progress. He also asked for weekly progress reports to be submitted directly to his office to ensure real-time oversight.

Following the inspection, Deputy CM Choudhary visited the sacred Baglamukhi Temple, where he offered prayers for the peace, harmony, and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to locals at the temple premises, he expressed his belief in spiritual strength and community unity as guiding forces in the region’s development journey.

The visit served both as a review of critical infrastructure development and as a reaffirmation of cultural and spiritual engagement with the people. The Deputy CM assured that the government will continue prioritizing both development and the well-being of citizens.

With firm timelines, quality mandates, and visible leadership at the helm, the GMC Udhampur project is set to become a symbol of efficient governance and public service delivery in Jammu and Kashmir.
