SEP 14: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the first-ever National Conference of Committees on Empowerment of Women from Parliament and State/UT Legislatures in Tirupati on September 14, 2025. The event, attended by representatives from over 20 states, focused on the theme “Women-led Development for Viksit Bharat” with key discussions on gender-responsive budgeting and women’s role in emerging technologies.
Shri Birla emphasized that India will become a truly developed and inclusive nation only when its daughters are educated, self-reliant, and actively participate in every sphere—from Panchayat to Parliament. He said women-led development and child welfare form the foundation of the government’s vision for a developed India by 2047.
Highlighting the Nari Shakti Vandan Act as a historic constitutional reform, he said the legislation is not just symbolic but ensures women’s rightful representation in governance. He paid tribute to the 15 women in the Constituent Assembly, whose contributions helped make India’s Constitution gender-neutral.
Shri Birla praised India’s rich tradition of women leadership—from ancient scholars to modern scientists, leaders, and entrepreneurs. He stressed that empowerment is a continuous process, requiring policy reform, representation, and grassroots participation.
The Speaker also noted that such conferences promote inclusive policymaking by bringing together voices from across the nation. He called for ensuring access to health, education, technology, and opportunity for every woman and child.
The event was attended by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker C. Ayyannapatrudu, and several state ministers and committee members.
Prior to the event, Shri Birla offered prayers at Tirumala, calling Tirupati a symbolic location to reaffirm India’s commitment to placing women at the heart of national development.
