JUNE 22: Transport Minister Satish Sharma chaired a high-level review meeting of the Transport Department in Jammu, focusing on the enhancement of digital governance, road safety, and public service delivery. The meeting brought together senior department officials and stakeholders to assess current operations and set targets for improved citizen services.
During the session, the Minister emphasized the importance of the timely delivery of online transport services, including licensing, vehicle registration, and permit renewals. He urged the department to further streamline digital platforms to reduce public inconvenience and eliminate bottlenecks.
A strong focus was placed on road safety and awareness, with Minister Sharma calling for intensified public outreach campaigns on traffic rules, accident prevention, and drug de-addiction. He stressed the need for strict law enforcement using modern tools such as AI-driven surveillance, speed detectors, and automated challan systems to promote compliance and reduce road fatalities.
The Minister also conducted a review of arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2025 in Kathua district, instructing officials to ensure inter-departmental coordination for the smooth movement and safety of pilgrims. He emphasized infrastructure preparedness, including traffic control, medical aid stations, and public utilities along the route.
Later in the day, Minister Sharma visited Hiranagar, where he attended the final match of a local hockey tournament. He felicitated the winning and runner-up teams, commending their sportsmanship and potential. Addressing young athletes and spectators, he announced the upgradation of sports grounds and improved training facilities to boost youth engagement in sports and fitness.
In addition, the Minister interacted with various public delegations from the region, listening to their concerns and development needs. He instructed the local administration to resolve grievances promptly, with a people-first approach to governance and service delivery.
The day-long visit highlighted the government’s multi-sectoral commitment—from digital transformation and road safety to youth development and pilgrim welfare—reflecting a comprehensive push toward a safer, connected, and empowered Jammu.
