JAMMU, APRIL 08: Pushing forward movement towards promoting inclusion of millets in our daily meals in view of its incredible health benefits, a mega ‘Eat Right Millet Walkathon’ begin here today which was flagged off by Executive Director, FSSAI, New Delhi, Inoshi Sharma.
The mega walkathon started from Government Women College Gandhi Nagar after a mesmerizing cultural bonanza was presented in the college.
The event was aimed to promote inclusion of millets in our daily meals to prevent lifestyle non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, improve cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Pertinently, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has declared 2023 as the “International Year of Millet-2023 (IYOM-2023)”. In celebration of this event, the Government of India has decided to make IYOM a people’s movement to promote Indian millet-based recipes and value-added products.
Commissioner FDA J&K, Shakeel ul Rehman, Health icon Nutrilite Ambassador, Sangram Singh, Joint Commissioner FDA, Sanjeev Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Food Safety, Jammu Division, Madan Magotra, Principle Government Degree Women College Gandhi Nagar Jammu, Professor Menu Mahajan and officers of Food Safety department, were present on the occasion.
The Walkathon, which started from GWC Gandhi Nagar, passed through various markets of Jammu with its culmination back at the college.
During the expedition, the participants highlighted the importance of Millets by chanting slogans like Eat Right, Eat safe, Eat Healthy and Stay Healthy. Besides, various health benefits of Millets of different species were elaborated through display of play cards in the caravan of Walkathon.
Later after the Walkathon, ‘Eat Right Millet Mela’ was organized in the premises of Government Women College Jammu which was inaugurated by Executive Director, FSSAI, Inoshi Sharma in presence of Commissioner FDA J&K, Shakeel ul Rehman.
The dignitaries inspected different stalls established in the mela showcasing the millet recipes and millet based products.
Also, the event witnessed scintillating cultural activities besides recipe , painting, Rangoli and poster competitions.
Commissioner FDA, while speaking on the occasion, deliberated on the importance of these events narrating the real objective of Eat Right Millet 2023.
Sangram Singh also addressed the gathering and motivated the participants towards ensuring and promoting use of millets in our daily meals.
