JUNE 10: Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan chaired the Global Young Scientists Conference and the Annual General Meeting of the Global Young Academy (GYA) at IIT Hyderabad today. The conference marks a significant international collaboration in science and innovation, drawing over 200 delegates, including 135 from 60 countries, and 65 national participants.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Pradhan extended a warm welcome to young scientific minds from around the globe. He congratulated the 30 new members inducted into GYA and appreciated the organization for selecting India and IIT Hyderabad as the host for this prestigious global event. “This is not just a conference, but a convergence of purpose, unity, and the shared vision of a better world,” he remarked.

Emphasizing India’s ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—One Earth, One Family, One Future—he said that India promotes science that is empathetic, ethical, and equitable. He urged scientists to move beyond patents and focus on partnerships that serve humanity. “Collaboration and empathy must guide scientific progress as we work toward a Viksit Bharat,” the Minister added.

Shri Pradhan also highlighted India’s commitment to global scientific cooperation through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and Mission LiFE. He reiterated that this moment offers a unique opportunity for scientists, innovators, and policymakers to join forces and design inclusive solutions that uplift the most vulnerable.

In a symbolic act, Shri Pradhan and dignitaries planted saplings under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative, encouraging students across India to adopt this movement as a tribute to mothers and a contribution to environmental sustainability.

The week-long conference, held from June 8–14, titled “Confluence of Visionaries: Empowering Science for Global Change,” is a joint initiative by IIT Hyderabad, GYA, the Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS), and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). It features thought-provoking sessions on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), Global Health and Nutrition, Industry 5.0, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

This historic event—being hosted in India for the first time—cements the country’s role as a hub for next-generation science and collaborative innovation, aiming to drive global change through a people-centered approach to research and development.
