NOV 02:Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Departments, Javid Ahmad Dar visited Kulgam district to launch the stocking of imported Brown Trout seed across various streams of Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing the region’s aquaculture sector, promoting sustainable livelihoods, and empowering rural youth through fish farming.

During his visit, the Minister underscored the immense potential of trout farming in strengthening the rural economy of Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that the region’s natural cold-water resources provide ideal conditions for trout cultivation, making it a vital sector

for both economic growth and environmental balance. The Government, he said, is committed to expanding aquaculture as part of its broader rural development strategy, ensuring that local youth and farmers benefit directly from emerging livelihood opportunities.

The stocking of imported Brown Trout seed will not only help in replenishing natural water bodies but also support the expansion of commercial trout farming units in the Union Territory. The initiative aims to increase fish production, improve income generation among rural communities, and attract private investment in the fisheries sector.

Javid Ahmad Dar also interacted with local fish farmers and departmental officers, urging them to adopt modern, scientific practices in aquaculture. He assured continued government support in terms of infrastructure, financial assistance, and training programs to strengthen the fisheries ecosystem across the region.

Highlighting the Government’s vision, the Minister emphasized that initiatives like these will help realize the goal of a “Prosperous and Self-Reliant Rural Jammu & Kashmir.” The Department of Fisheries has been playing a pivotal role in introducing advanced techniques, quality seed distribution, and innovative fish farming models to ensure long-term sustainability and profitability.
