JUNE 23: The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) has launched a three-day Capacity Building Programme on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for officials of Munitions India Limited (MIL) at the National Academy of Defence Production (NADP) in Nagpur, aimed at strengthening the CSR ecosystem within India’s defence public sector.

A major highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IICA and NADP, underscoring a joint commitment to advancing CSR excellence and institutional capacity-building within Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs). The MoU was signed on June 9, 2025, by Dr. Garima Dadhich, Associate Professor and Head of the School of Business Environment at IICA, and Dr. J. P. Dash, Chief General Manager of NADP, just ahead of the programme’s formal inauguration.

This strategic partnership and the training programme are being conducted under the visionary guidance of Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General and CEO of IICA, who has played a key role in fostering institutional collaborations aimed at responsible corporate conduct.

The inaugural session was led by Dr. Garima Dadhich, who highlighted that CSR today is not just a legal obligation under the Companies Act but also a strategic imperative for companies, especially in the public sector. She encouraged participants to align CSR activities with national development goals, such as environmental sustainability, livelihood generation, and inclusive growth.

Dr. J.P. Dash welcomed the participants and emphasized how this training would enhance their leadership and execution capabilities in CSR. He also noted the growing need for public sector organisations to integrate social responsibility into their operational frameworks to create long-term value for society.

The training programme is structured to cover essential aspects of CSR, including policy formulation, impact assessment, sustainability reporting, and alignment with India’s broader developmental objectives. It includes interactive sessions, case studies, and expert-led discussions, providing a comprehensive learning experience for the officials involved.

Through this initiative, IICA reaffirms its mission to build a responsible and accountable corporate ecosystem by empowering stakeholders in both private and public sectors. The collaboration with NADP stands as a model for how strategic partnerships can promote ethical governance, better social outcomes, and enhanced institutional capabilities across India’s defence and industrial landscape.

This capacity-building effort marks a significant step forward in embedding sustainability and social responsibility into India’s defence manufacturing sector.
