NOV 28: The India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF 2025) concluded in New Delhi after two days of extensive discussions involving government representatives, technology leaders, civil-society groups, academics and global internet governance bodies. Held at the India Habitat Centre and the India International Centre, the fifth edition of the forum focused on building an open, secure and inclusive internet ecosystem for a “Viksit Bharat”.

Centred on the theme “Advancing Internet Governance for an Inclusive and Sustainable Viksit Bharat,” the forum explored three key pillars: Inclusive Digital Future, Digital Infrastructure for Sustainable Growth, and AI for People and Planet. Over four panel discussions and twelve workshops, experts debated issues such as digital inclusion, rural connectivity, cybersecurity, DNS security, India’s digital public infrastructure, data protection, responsible AI deployment and opportunities for young innovators.

Inaugurating the event, Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT, Shri Jitin Prasada, emphasised that India’s digital progress is rooted in collective action. He highlighted the expansion of 5G, India’s robust digital public systems and the consent-based Data Protection Act as major enablers of safe and reliable access. He also stressed that countering cyber risks requires collaboration across industry, academia and civil society.

MeitY Joint Secretary Shri Sushil Pal underlined India’s massive digital scale and the responsibility that comes with it. With nearly one billion internet users, he called for strengthening trust, safety and resilience across digital ecosystems.

NIXI CEO Dr. Devesh Tyagi showcased the impact of India’s multi-stakeholder model and noted the success of the NIXI Internet Intern Scheme, which has trained over 10,000 students.

The forum ended with a shared commitment to advancing a safer, more resilient and inclusive internet for India and the world.
