AUG 06: The Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (PCIM&H), under the Ministry of Ayush, inaugurated a three-day WHO–IRCH international workshop on “Safety and Regulation of Herbal Medicines” and “Efficacy and Intended Use of Herbal Medicines” at its headquarters in Ghaziabad on August 6, 2025.
Jointly organised by the Ministry of Ayush and the World Health Organization (WHO), this global technical workshop brings together experts from WHO Member States and Observer States to foster regulatory convergence, safety protocols, and clinical validation of herbal medicines within traditional healthcare systems.
Delivering the inaugural address, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, reaffirmed India’s leadership role in the WHO–IRCH platform. “As lead country for Working Group-1 and Working Group-3, India is committed to strengthening global cooperation in the regulation of traditional medicine,” he said.
Dr. Kim Sungchol, Chairperson of WHO–IRCH, emphasized the growing need for global collaboration to build robust safety, quality, and efficacy standards in herbal medicine.
Joint Secretary Ms. Monalisa Das highlighted the pivotal role of India’s pharmacopoeial institutions in setting international benchmarks for traditional systems.
The workshops are attended by delegates from Poland, Nepal, Bhutan, Japan, Indonesia, Brunei, Iran, Cuba, and Observer States like Sri Lanka and Paraguay. Participants from the USA, Egypt, and Brazil are joining virtually.
Sessions include hands-on training in pharmacognostic, chemical, and elemental analysis techniques, and site visits to Ayush institutions to offer international guests practical insights into India’s manufacturing and academic systems.
Dr. Raman Mohan Singh, Director, PCIM&H, applauded the collaborative efforts of WHO and international partners in pushing forward global standards for herbal medicines.
