SEP 07: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, felicitated the victorious Indian team that excelled at the 18th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO-2025) held in Jining, China from 8–16 August 2025.
India secured a remarkable tally of seven medals—1 Gold, 4 Silver, and 2 Bronze—alongside a 3rd Prize in the International Geoscience Youth Movement (I-GYM) Reporter category, marking another proud moment for the country on the global stage.
The medal-winning students were: Rayansh Gupta (Sat Paul Mittal School, Ludhiana) – Gold, Silver, and I-GYM 3rd Prize; Charuvrat Bains (M.G.N. Public School, Kapurthala) – 2 Silver and 1 Bronze; Apam Nidhi Pandey (PM Shri K.V. No.1, Jaipur) – 1 Silver; and Priyanshi Ghanghas (MD Indraprastha Sr. Sec. Public School, Delhi) – 1 Bronze. The team was mentored by Prof. Devesh Walia and Prof. Hema Achyuthan, with Dr. Jagvir Singh serving as observer.
Congratulating the achievers, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that the success of these young minds, many hailing from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, reflects India’s growing culture of innovation nurtured by the startup revolution. He further highlighted how the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) is unlocking new opportunities by allowing students to transcend conventional subject boundaries, encouraging them to pursue fields such as Earth Sciences, Biotechnology, Space Technology, and start-up led enterprises.
The Minister also urged students to explore government initiatives like Vigyan Jyoti, scholarships, fellowships, and research grants that can help scale their innovative ideas for societal benefit.
Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Dr. M. Ravichandran, noted that India annually selects its IESO team through the Indian National Earth Science Olympiad (INESO), conducted at 300 centres across the country. He expressed satisfaction with India’s consistently improving performance in recent editions.
Dr. Singh concluded by advising students not to restrict themselves to winning medals but to channel their creativity towards solving real-life challenges and contributing to nation-building.
