OPERATION BRAHMA
OPERATION BRAHMA

MARCH 30: In response to the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on March 28, 2025, the Government of India has launched Operation Brahma, aimed at providing immediate humanitarian assistance to the affected regions of Myanmar. The operation is being coordinated under the direction of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in collaboration with various Indian defense and emergency agencies, including the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

The Indian Navy has been at the forefront of this relief effort, with multiple ships deployed as part of the operation. On March 29, 2025, Indian Navy ships Satpura and Savitri, under the Eastern Naval Command, set sail for Yangon, Myanmar, to assist with the delivery of essential relief material. These ships are part of the Navy’s immediate response to the humanitarian crisis, ensuring that aid reaches those in need without delay.

In addition to the ships from the Eastern Naval Command, two more ships from the Andaman and Nicobar Command, Indian Navy Ships Karmuk and LCU 52, will also set sail on March 30, 2025, to bolster the relief efforts in Myanmar. These ships are carrying around 52 tons of relief material, which includes critical items such as HADR (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief) pallets, essential clothing, food, medicines, drinking water, and emergency supplies to help alleviate the suffering of those affected by the earthquake.

Operation Brahma underscores India’s commitment to remaining the “First Responder” in the region during humanitarian crises. The Indian Navy’s swift deployment of ships and the large quantity of relief material being delivered highlights the country’s dedication to providing immediate assistance in times of disaster. As part of India’s broader efforts in disaster management and international humanitarian aid, the operation reinforces India’s role as a reliable partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Indian government has emphasized that the success of Operation Brahma depends on a coordinated effort across various agencies, with the aim of providing swift, effective, and sustained relief to Myanmar. This operation reflects India’s continued commitment to global solidarity and humanitarian cooperation in times of crisis, reaffirming the country’s proactive approach to disaster relief in its neighboring countries. As the operation continues, India’s efforts will support Myanmar’s long-term recovery and help mitigate the impact of the earthquake on the affected populations.
