JUNE 20: INS Teg, a stealth frigate of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet, arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius, on 19th June 2025 as part of her operational deployment to the South West Indian Ocean Region. The visit will continue until 22nd June. The ship’s arrival highlights India’s strategic maritime outreach and commitment to cooperative maritime security.
During the port call, INS Teg will conduct joint surveillance of Mauritius’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) alongside the Mauritius National Coast Guard (NCG), involving both surface and aerial assets. This joint operation reflects a shared objective of combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and securing maritime commons in the region.
In alignment with India’s cultural diplomacy, INS Teg will also commemorate International Day of Yoga 2025 on 21st June through a joint yoga session. The event will bring together personnel from the Indian Navy, Mauritius Coast Guard, and members of the Indian diaspora, reinforcing people-to-people ties and shared values.
INS Teg was commissioned on 27th April 2012 and has since served as a crucial asset in India’s naval power projection in key maritime regions. The frigate’s visit to Mauritius involves a series of professional, training, and community outreach activities. These include harbour training sessions for NCG personnel in key disciplines like firefighting, damage control, and seamanship onboard INS Teg.
Additionally, the crew of INS Teg will tour NCG facilities to enhance mutual operational understanding. A number of social and sporting engagements, including friendly matches and recreational activities, are also planned, fostering camaraderie and trust between the naval forces.
Upon arrival, the Commanding Officer of INS Teg called on key Mauritian dignitaries, including the Commissioner of Police, the Secretary to the Cabinet, and the Commander of the Coast Guard. These interactions reaffirm India’s commitment to bolstering bilateral maritime cooperation.
The visit underscores the Indian Navy’s broader regional role as a net security provider and reiterates its dedication to fostering peace, stability, and sustainable maritime governance. By combining strategic naval operations with cultural engagement, the deployment further cements the robust ties between India and Mauritius.
