MAY 29:  In preparation for the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) meeting was held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi, to review and coordinate national strategies for the upcoming global celebration. Bringing together senior officials from multiple ministries, Ayush institutions, and stakeholder departments, the meeting reflected the government’s Whole-of-Government approach aimed at fostering mass participation and impactful wellness outreach.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing yoga as more than a symbolic observance—it is a movement toward holistic health. He called upon ministries and organizations to intensify final-stage preparations and highlighted that over 250 events have already been conducted across India and abroad. Since March 13, 76 countdown events have built momentum, with wide international participation. Shri Jadhav also thanked Yoga Gurus for shaping the Common Yoga Protocol and urged support for the flagship “Yoga Sangam” campaign.

The Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, in his welcome remarks, noted the significance of IDY 2025, projecting it as a global movement. He recalled that an estimated 24 crore people participated in IDY 2024 within India alone and announced an ambitious plan for over 1 lakh yoga events to be held simultaneously on June 21, 2025. The Prime Minister is set to lead the national event from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where more than 5 lakh participants are expected.

Reinforcing India’s call for global wellness, the Secretary referenced the Prime Minister’s recent address at the 78th World Health Assembly, aligning IDY’s theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” with WHO’s “One World, One Health.” He also revealed that ten Signature Events across various sectors will anchor this year’s campaign.

A detailed presentation by the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) outlined logistical plans, calling IDY a Whole-of-the-Nation movement since its inception at the UNGA in 2015. Ministries of Tourism and Culture will organize IDY events at 150 iconic tourist destinations.

Ms. Monalisa Dash, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, concluded, “IDY is a celebration of India’s timeless heritage. This year, we aim for deeper engagement, broader outreach, and lasting global impact.”

The meeting ended with a collective resolve to make IDY 2025 a landmark event in the global wellness movement.
