APRIL 9: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya today chaired a crucial meeting to review the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) in Jammu district. The meeting aimed to assess the progress of ongoing housing projects under the scheme and to ensure the timely completion of construction activities.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Additional District Development Commissioner Sher Singh, Joint Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Executive Officers of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), and representatives from the Housing Department and Jammu Development Authority (JDA).
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Vaishya emphasized the urgency of expediting the construction process under PMAY-U. He directed all SDMs to personally monitor the progress of housing projects in their respective ULBs, ensuring that the critical stages of construction—plinth, lintel, and roof—are completed without delay. This directive aims to prevent any further setbacks and to keep the projects on track for timely completion.
The DC also addressed concerns regarding uninitiated works and emphasized the need for officials to resolve any underlying issues promptly. Recognizing the importance of timely project completion for the beneficiaries, Vaishya set a firm deadline for ongoing projects, instructing that houses at the roof or lintel stage be completed within one month. He also highlighted the importance of conducting ground verification of all under-construction houses to ensure accuracy and quality control in the ongoing work.
In addition to reviewing the ongoing construction, the meeting also discussed the rollout of PMAY 2.0 in Jammu district. The Deputy Commissioner urged officials to organize special awareness camps to educate beneficiaries about the scheme and provide assistance during the application process. These camps are seen as a vital step in ensuring that eligible citizens are well-informed and can navigate the application process effectively.
Officials from the Executive Officers of ULBs reported that several awareness sessions have already been held at various levels to encourage participation. DC Vaishya reiterated the importance of these sessions in reaching out to beneficiaries, ensuring that they are aware of the available benefits, and providing support throughout the application and approval process.
The review meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to ensure the effective implementation of PMAY-U and PMAY 2.0 in the district, with a focus on timely completion, quality construction, and the active engagement of beneficiaries.
