MAY 13: Minister Javed Ahmed Rana visited Jamia Zia Ul Uloom, a prominent seminary in Poonch, to express his deep sorrow and solidarity with the local community following the recent cross-LoC shelling that caused widespread damage and claimed the life of noted religious scholar, Qari Muhammad Iqbal.
The Minister’s visit comes in the wake of intensified shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC), which has severely impacted residential and institutional infrastructure in the area. At the seminary, Minister Rana met with Maulana Syed Habib, who briefed him in detail on the extent of structural damage and the emotional toll inflicted on the community.
Calling the loss of Qari Muhammad Iqbal “irreparable,” Minister Rana extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the seminary’s faculty. “Qari Iqbal was not only a scholar but a guide to many. His passing is a loss to the entire region,” the Minister remarked during his visit.
He further commended the management of Jamia Zia Ul Uloom, along with various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and district administration officials, for their quick and compassionate response during the crisis. “In times of adversity, the courage and unity shown by the seminary’s team and local volunteers is commendable. Their efforts in supporting the displaced and distressed are deeply appreciated,” he said.
Minister Rana assured the seminary leadership that the government is committed to assessing the damages and extending all necessary support to help rebuild and recover. He also emphasized the importance of inter-agency coordination to ensure timely rehabilitation and psychological support for affected families.
The visit was marked by emotional exchanges and prayers in memory of Qari Muhammad Iqbal, whose contributions to education and community service were widely respected.
As the border situation remains fragile, Minister Rana urged both administrative bodies and citizens to remain vigilant and united. His outreach aims to reassure the people of Poonch that their concerns are being heard at the highest levels.
The visit concluded with a renewed sense of community resolve and the promise of continued government support during these trying times.
