JUNE 18: Jal Shakti Minister Javed Rana conducted a comprehensive review of water supply schemes in the Pir Panjal region, underscoring the importance of timely implementation, community involvement, and consistent monitoring to ensure long-term water sustainability.

During the review meeting, the minister emphasized the need for meticulous planning in the execution of ongoing and upcoming water supply projects. He instructed concerned officials to prioritize quality infrastructure while ensuring that deadlines are met without unnecessary delays. Highlighting the significance of access to safe drinking water, he called for fast-tracking the completion of ongoing works to address pressing water needs in the region.

One of the central themes of the review was water quality. Javed Rana directed officials to carry out regular water quality testing to ensure that supply to households remains safe and clean. He noted that any negligence in this area could have serious health implications, particularly in remote and hilly areas like those in the Pir Panjal range.

To make the projects more effective and sustainable, the minister strongly advocated for active community participation. He stressed that local engagement—both in planning and maintenance—would not only build trust but also ensure the long-term functionality of the infrastructure. Empowering local committees to monitor water usage and maintenance was proposed as a vital step toward building a self-sustaining water ecosystem.

The minister also took stock of challenges being faced in the execution of various schemes, such as terrain difficulties, resource limitations, and weather constraints. He assured the district and block-level teams of full departmental support in resolving these issues swiftly.

Javed Rana reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable and consistent water supply across rural and semi-urban regions, especially those prone to seasonal water shortages. He added that the Jal Shakti Department remains focused on enhancing both the quality and reach of its services under various state and centrally-sponsored schemes.

Local leaders, departmental engineers, and representatives from civil society were present at the review, offering suggestions and feedback. The session concluded with clear directives to accelerate project timelines while ensuring sustainability, safety, and transparency in execution.
