JUNE 04: Minister Javed Rana convened a high-level meeting to address convergent issues between the Forest Department and the Jal Shakti Department, with a strong focus on environmental protection, tribal welfare, and integrated water resource management. The meeting aimed to create a collaborative framework that strengthens ecological resilience while uplifting local communities.
During the session, the Minister underscored the need for synergy between departments to tackle the growing challenges of climate change, deforestation, water scarcity, and land degradation. He emphasized that such collaborative efforts are essential for preserving natural resources, protecting biodiversity, and ensuring sustainable development.
Key directives were issued to launch large-scale plantation drives in forested and catchment areas to enhance green cover and improve groundwater recharge. The Minister called for these initiatives to be carried out with community participation, especially involving tribal populations and local youth in afforestation and conservation efforts.
Additionally, the meeting discussed the implementation of soil conservation projects in erosion-prone zones to prevent land degradation and ensure the long-term sustainability of agriculture and forest ecosystems. Officials were instructed to identify priority areas and initiate pilot programs that could later be scaled up across the Union Territory.
Sustainable tourism was another major point of focus. The Minister advocated for promoting eco-friendly tourism practices that respect the local environment and culture. He emphasized the development of nature trails, eco-parks, and regulated tourism zones to create livelihood opportunities without harming fragile ecosystems.
Tribal welfare was highlighted as a key component of the convergence strategy. The Minister called for tailored interventions to improve access to clean water, health facilities, and employment for tribal communities living in and around forest areas.
In closing, Javed Rana reaffirmed the government’s commitment to balanced development that respects ecological boundaries while enhancing quality of life. He urged officials from both departments to maintain a coordinated approach, ensuring all future initiatives are rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and transparency.
