JUNE 04: The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under the Ministry of Science & Technology, actively observed Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 from May 1st to May 15th at its headquarters in New Delhi and across its affiliated Autonomous Institutions (AIs) and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The initiative was organized in line with the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission and followed the calendar issued by the Cabinet Secretariat.
The fortnight began with a pledge-taking ceremony at the DBT office in CGO Complex, New Delhi, led by the Secretary, DBT. Officers and staff participated in the reading of the cleanliness pledge, reaffirming their dedication to hygiene, civic responsibility, and maintaining clean surroundings. This ceremony marked the formal and symbolic beginning of a series of impactful activities conducted over the next two weeks.
Throughout the Swachhata Pakhwada, DBT and its associated institutions carried out 188 activities focused on promoting cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and sustainable waste management practices. These initiatives witnessed enthusiastic participation from staff across all levels and regions.
The department’s action plan for the Pakhwada included several noteworthy best practices such as the installation of e-waste collection bins, sanitary napkin disposal machines, and high-capacity waste shredder machines to promote efficient waste segregation and disposal. These steps not only reinforced the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission but also emphasized the importance of integrating scientific solutions in day-to-day cleanliness drives.
The DBT ensured that awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives in public spaces, and innovative waste management demonstrations were carried out at all its associated centers, setting a strong example for other departments and institutions to follow.
Through its proactive efforts, the Department of Biotechnology highlighted the role that scientific and research institutions can play in fostering a cleaner, greener, and healthier India. The successful conclusion of Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 stands as a testament to DBT’s ongoing commitment to national goals in both innovation and environmental responsibility.
