25 January: Ranji Trophy 2024-25: J&K Stuns Defending Champions Mumbai with a 5-Wicket Victory

In a stunning turn of events at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai on January 25, Jammu and Kashmir shocked defending champions Mumbai by five wickets in their Elite Group A match. Despite Mumbai’s star-studded lineup, including international players like Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, and Ajinkya Rahane, their batting failed to fire in the challenging conditions.

Mumbai’s fortunes were buoyed by a valiant century (113*) from Shardul Thakur and a resilient 173-run unbeaten partnership with Tanush Kotian (58*), which gave Mumbai a 188-run lead. However, J&K’s bowlers, led by a well-structured attack, restricted Mumbai’s hopes of a strong comeback.

In reply, J&K, captained by Paras Dogra, showed great composure. They successfully chased down a target of 205 runs in just 49 overs, losing only five wickets. This victory marks a major upset in the competition and cements J&K’s growing stature in domestic cricket.
