Srinagar, February 24: In a move aimed at promoting urban agriculture and household self-sufficiency, the Joint Director Agriculture Inputs inaugurated the sale of high-quality vegetable seedlings under the Kitchen Garden Scheme at Lalmandi in Srinagar.
The initiative seeks to encourage kitchen gardening among urban and peri-urban households while strengthening sustainable agricultural practices across the region. By making certified planting material available at subsidized rates, the Agriculture Department aims to empower residents to grow fresh and nutritious vegetables within their home gardens.
Boost to Urban Kitchen Gardening
The vegetable seedling distribution drive forms part of the broader Kitchen Garden Scheme, which has played a key role in enhancing household-level vegetable production and reducing dependency on market supplies.
