MARCH 19: Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Mission Director of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) for Jammu & Kashmir, conducted a virtual review of the JJM schemes in district Samba today. The review session was aimed at assessing the progress of the various ongoing and completed projects under the mission.

During the meeting, the Mission Director was presented with a detailed PowerPoint presentation that outlined the current status of the schemes in the district. As per the latest figures, there are 130 schemes in different phases of execution in Samba, with 83 of these already completed. These projects include a wide range of civil works, such as the construction of bore wells, dug wells, tube wells, overhead tanks, and filtration plants, along with the laying of pipe networks. Out of the 522 civil works allotted, 422 have been successfully completed. The district is also witnessing the implementation of 130 schemes involving mechanical counterparts, out of which 92 have been finished.

Shah emphasized the importance of addressing the issues causing delays in certain projects. He directed the concerned officers to clear any bottlenecks hindering the timely progress of schemes, particularly those affected by delays in forest clearances, land acquisition issues, and coordination problems with other departments.

The Mission Director was informed that Samba district comprises 382 villages and 79,840 rural households. As of now, 54,407 households have been provided with Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), bringing the district closer to achieving its goal of providing tap water to every rural household. However, the MD stressed the urgency of completing the process of Har Ghar Certification for the 131 reported villages, of which only 59 have been certified so far. He instructed the officers to expedite the certification process for the remaining villages to ensure all households have access to clean water as per the mission’s guidelines.

Shah also underscored the need for better supervision and monitoring of the ongoing projects. He urged the officers to closely monitor the progress of these schemes and ensure that they are completed within the stipulated time frame. Timely completion of these projects, he stressed, is crucial for improving the rural water supply infrastructure in the district.

The review meeting was attended by the Chief Engineer of the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department Jammu, senior officials from the district’s Jal Shakti department, and both civil and mechanical consultants involved in the implementation of the schemes.
