APRIL 3: A delegation of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) employees from SKUAST Jammu today met with Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, presenting a range of issues and concerns affecting their service conditions. The employees outlined several pressing challenges they have been facing, particularly the significant cuts to essential allowances, including medical, transport, and the employer’s contribution to the National Pension Scheme (NPS).
During the meeting, the KVK staff explained that these cuts have created considerable financial strain, especially for those working in rural areas. KVK employees are dedicated to promoting agricultural innovation, educating farmers, and supporting various farmer welfare schemes. However, the financial challenges posed by the reduction in allowances have made it increasingly difficult for them to maintain a reasonable standard of living while continuing to deliver services to the farming community.
The delegation emphasized the impact of these reductions on their morale and ability to perform their duties effectively. They pointed out that many of the staff members, despite their hard work, had been waiting for timely promotions, which had not been addressed in a satisfactory manner. Additionally, they highlighted the issue of pending allowances, which had not been released, further exacerbating the financial pressures faced by KVK staff. The employees urged the university administration and the government to resolve these issues promptly by ensuring that the pending allowances are paid and that the necessary steps are taken to ensure timely promotions for all KVK employees.
The delegation also brought up the concern of the NPS contributions, which had not been properly managed, leaving employees uncertain about their future financial security. This, they explained, was a matter of great concern for all KVK staff, who rely on their pensions for post-retirement security.
Responding to the delegation’s concerns, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary expressed understanding and assured them that their issues would be taken seriously. He promised to raise the matter with the Agriculture Minister to ensure that a solution is found. The Deputy CM acknowledged the valuable contributions of KVK employees in rural development and agricultural advancement and assured the delegation that the government would work towards resolving these service-related issues as soon as possible.
The meeting concluded on a hopeful note, with the delegation expressing confidence that their concerns would be addressed in the near future. The KVK employees left the meeting with a sense of optimism, hoping that their financial and service-related issues would soon be resolved, allowing them to continue their important work in supporting farmers and agricultural development.
