Jammu, October 2, 2026: The Bharatiya Lok Sangeet Kala Manch organised a musical tribute to legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar on the occasion of her 97th birth anniversary at the Writers Club, K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu.

The programme brought together artists, public representatives and officials to remember the iconic singer and celebrate her enduring contribution to Indian music. The event also provided a platform for young artists to present some of the songs associated with Mangeshkar’s illustrious musical journey.

East Jammu MLA Yudhvir Sethi attended the programme as the chief guest. His presence highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting India’s rich musical and cultural heritage through such community-led programmes.

Director, PIB Jammu, Neha Jalali, IIS, and Deputy Director, DD News Jammu, Ayushi Puri, IIS, were also present at the event.

The gathering reflected the continuing interest in Mangeshkar’s music among younger generations and the role of cultural organisations in keeping her musical legacy alive.

Young Artists Present Lata Mangeshkar’s Popular Songs

A key feature of the programme was the participation of young artists, who performed popular songs made memorable by Lata Mangeshkar.

Their performances offered a musical tribute to the legendary singer while introducing her celebrated repertoire to audiences through live performances. Mangeshkar’s music continues to remain part of India’s cultural landscape, with musical events dedicated to her being organised across the country on her birth anniversary.

The Jammu programme also reflected the continuing role of local cultural institutions and artists in celebrating personalities who have made a lasting contribution to Indian art and music.

Celebrating a Lasting Musical Legacy

Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar went on to become one of the most recognised voices in Indian playback singing. Her extensive body of work across several decades has continued to influence singers and music lovers.

Jammu has previously hosted musical programmes commemorating Mangeshkar’s contribution. In 2024, a separate tribute at K.L. Saigal Hall by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and the Institute of Music and Fine Arts featured performances of songs popularised by her.

The latest programme by the Bharatiya Lok Sangeet Kala Manch once again brought together music and cultural participation to commemorate Mangeshkar’s legacy.
