Srinagar, August 12, 2026: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday flagged off and participated in a mega Tiranga Rally along Boulevard Road on the banks of Dal Lake, marking a major public mobilisation ahead of Independence Day.
The rally witnessed participation from thousands of students, government employees, security personnel and citizens from different sections of society, turning the Srinagar Boulevard into a vibrant display of national pride and unity.
The event formed part of the broader Har Ghar Tiranga celebrations being organised across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of August 15. Tiranga rallies are being conducted across all 20 districts of the Union Territory between August 9 and 17, encouraging people to participate in Independence Day programmes and display the National Flag with pride and respect.
Thousands Join Tiranga Rally
The Srinagar rally began from the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) and proceeded towards the Botanical Garden, with participants carrying the Tricolour along the picturesque Boulevard Road. The presence of the National Flag against the backdrop of Dal Lake created a striking atmosphere of patriotism and public participation.
Students and young people formed a significant part of the gathering, alongside employees, security personnel and members of civil society. The large turnout highlighted the participation of people from diverse backgrounds in the Independence Day celebrations.
Focus on National Unity and Public Participation
The Tiranga Rally is aimed at strengthening public involvement in national celebrations and encouraging citizens to develop a deeper connection with the National Flag.
As part of the celebrations, authorities have also planned activities such as Tiranga concerts, pledge programmes, selfie campaigns, cultural events and Tiranga Melas across Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials have also emphasised the importance of following the Flag Code of India while organising public programmes and displaying the National Flag.
Srinagar Gears Up for Independence Day
The mega rally comes as Jammu and Kashmir prepares for the 80th Independence Day celebrations. Public programmes are being organised across the Union Territory to mark the occasion and encourage wider participation.
According to officials, more than 14 lakh National Flags have been requisitioned by districts for distribution across Jammu and Kashmir as part of the campaign.
The Srinagar Tiranga Rally has emerged as one of the prominent events in this year’s Independence Day build-up, bringing together students, employees, security personnel and citizens in a shared public celebration.
