MARCH 20:Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha attended the Viksit Bharat Samvad ‘EDGE 2025’ at Kanpur today, where he delivered a keynote address focused on the future economic growth of India. During his address, the Lieutenant Governor called upon civil society members, youth, and industry stakeholders to unite in pursuing two major goals: making India a $5 trillion economy by 2026 and transforming the nation into a developed country, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047.

Emphasizing the importance of swift reforms, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the need for collaboration across various sectors to make every part of the economy globally competitive. “Given the global economic upheaval, trade uncertainties, and geopolitical challenges, we must focus on making India a global hub for design and manufacturing,” he stated.

The Lieutenant Governor further stressed the importance of India’s demographic dividend, advocating for skilling, reskilling, and upskilling the youth to take full advantage of the technological advancements occurring globally. “While the world is ageing, young India is rising. This demographic advantage, combined with the power of IIT—Innovation, Industries, and Technology—will ensure steady economic growth to meet the target of a $5 trillion economy by 2026,” he said.

Another key point he raised was the need to reduce dependence on foreign markets by focusing on the production of critical goods to support India’s growing economy. To become a manufacturing powerhouse by 2029, he emphasized the importance of a long-term strategy for foreign investment and robust domestic supply chains.

The Lieutenant Governor also urged business leaders to establish rural enterprises that are connected to the global market. “I want to see a new partnership between Panchayats and Industry across the country. This is the only way to accelerate inclusive development and create a prosperous society where all sections will benefit from economic growth,” he said. He further added that rural areas must match modern cities in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.

The Lieutenant Governor also praised India’s progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, which has seen transformative changes. He highlighted the industrial revival in Kanpur, once known as the “Manchester of the East” for its leather and textile industries. With major industries in textiles, leather, and defense manufacturing setting up units in Kanpur, he pointed out that the groundwork for accelerated industrial development in the city has been laid, and it is on its way to reclaiming its lost glory.

The Lieutenant Governor concluded by acknowledging the collaborative efforts of the Rotary Club of Kanpur Gaurav, Confederation of Indian Industries, and Prout Solicitors LLP, who provided a meaningful platform for discussions and collaborations aimed at India’s progress. He expressed confidence that Kanpur, with its growing exports, will play a pivotal role in India’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat.
