May 15: Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, met with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah yesterday to discuss the prevailing security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and other sensitive border areas of the Union Territory.
Lt. Gen. Sharma was accompanied by Lt. Gen. Prashant Srivastava, General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps. The high-level meeting focused on the current ground realities, recent cross-border developments, and the overall preparedness of security forces in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah appreciated the efforts of the Indian Army, stating, “Our forces are doing a commendable job in protecting the nation.” He also reiterated the government’s support for the armed forces in ensuring the safety of citizens, particularly in border districts facing heightened tension.
The meeting comes amid a renewed emphasis on inter-agency coordination and civilian safety measures in border areas. Both military and civil leadership reaffirmed their shared commitment to safeguarding national security and upholding peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
