Feb 10: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Monday inaugurated the J&K Police Martyrs Hockey Tournament, marking its revival after a gap of nearly a decade. The tournament, organised to honour the supreme sacrifice of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, reflects the administration’s commitment to remembering martyrs while promoting sports and youth engagement in the Union Territory.
Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor paid rich tributes to the fallen heroes of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, describing their courage, dedication and unbreakable resolve as a source of inspiration for the entire nation. He said the tournament stands as a symbol of respect for the sacrifices made by police personnel in safeguarding peace, security and unity in the region.
Manoj Sinha highlighted the vital role of sports in nation-building and youth development, stating that such platforms channel youthful energy in a positive direction while fostering discipline, teamwork and resilience. He reiterated that the government remains fully committed to empowering the youth of Jammu and Kashmir by creating opportunities in sports, education, entrepreneurship and skill development.
The Lt Governor also reaffirmed the administration’s firm resolve to make Jammu and Kashmir a drug-free Union Territory, stressing that sports and constructive engagement are among the most effective tools to keep young people away from substance abuse. He urged the youth to actively participate in sports and cultural activities, which not only improve physical fitness but also strengthen mental well-being and character.
