MAY 14: In a solemn visit marked by grief and concern, Minister Javed Ahmed Rana today extended heartfelt condolences to the family of Lt. Balwinder Kour, who tragically lost her life in recent cross-Line of Control (LoC) shelling in Mankote Mendhar. Her death, a stark reminder of the volatility in border areas, was mourned by the entire local community, who gathered to honor her memory and console the bereaved family.
Minister Rana expressed deep sorrow over the loss, acknowledging Lt. Kour’s role as a courageous and dedicated citizen. He assured her family that the government stood with them in this time of tragedy and would provide all necessary support, including financial assistance and emotional aid. “We share your grief, and we will ensure her sacrifice is remembered with honor and dignity,” the Minister said during his interaction with the family.
Following the condolence visit, Minister Rana conducted an extensive tour of border villages along the LoC, accompanied by the Sub-Divisional Administration. The purpose of the tour was to assess the extent of damage inflicted by the recent wave of shelling, which has caused widespread destruction to homes, livestock, and public infrastructure.
The Minister visited multiple affected locations where he met with local residents, listened to their concerns, and inspected the damage firsthand. Residents highlighted their ongoing hardships, including loss of shelter, injured livestock, and psychological trauma caused by constant fear and displacement.
Minister Rana assured the affected families that the government was actively coordinating relief efforts and that a detailed assessment report would be prepared promptly. Compensation for property damage and livestock loss would be disbursed following administrative verification, he added.
He also emphasized the importance of bolstering safety infrastructure in vulnerable villages and instructed local officials to expedite work on community bunkers, supply relief materials, and ensure regular medical support in high-risk zones.
