APRIL 8: Minister for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Javed Ahmed Rana, today chaired a crucial meeting at the Civil Secretariat to review key issues and development plans of the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department. The meeting, attended by senior officials including the Commissioner Secretary of the Forest Department, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, and other key officers, was focused on enhancing the department’s efficiency and ensuring better service delivery.
While addressing the meeting, Minister Javed Rana underscored the importance of maintaining accountability and transparency in the administrative processes of the department. He stressed that these principles are essential for ensuring effective service delivery, particularly in the forestry and environmental sectors. Rana instructed the officers to prioritize the timely resolution of employee-related matters to foster a positive work environment and enhance motivation within the department.
A key highlight of the meeting was the proposal to develop an online portal designed to facilitate all transactions related to timber stock and supply. This initiative aims to streamline the process, reduce potential irregularities, and ensure that transactions are conducted in a transparent manner. The Minister explained that this portal would not only ease the procurement process, particularly regarding timber at notified rates, but also provide timely updates on stock and supply positions.
“With the development of an online portal, we will be able to constantly monitor and facilitate transparent transactions, creating a win-win situation for both the government and the people,” said Javed Rana.
The Minister also took a comprehensive review of the availability of timber across all regions of Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the equitable distribution of timber to meet the needs of all regions. Rana directed the officers to address the public’s timber requirements effectively and promptly, ensuring that all areas receive their fair share.
Environmental pollution and afforestation were also central topics during the meeting. Rana sought actionable solutions from the concerned officers to curb pollution and protect the environment. He placed significant emphasis on afforestation, reviewing the progress made in developing high-quality planting materials through advanced research. The Minister directed that saplings of important species should be raised annually for distribution to the Forest Department and other user agencies to enhance forest coverage.
Additionally, Javed Rana reviewed the criteria set for the establishment of new stone crushers in the region. He emphasized that all new stone crushers should be established following due norms and guidelines to ensure sustainable environmental practices.
Overall, the meeting highlighted the government’s commitment to improving forest management, ensuring transparency, and promoting sustainable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
