MAY 27: In a significant outreach initiative, Minister Satish Sharma held a detailed interaction with the Traders Federation of Pulwama, assuring them of timely intervention in resolving various civic, transport, and development-related issues. The meeting was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to directly engage with grassroots stakeholders and improve the delivery of public services.

During the meeting, representatives from the Traders Federation raised pressing concerns, including the long-pending revitalisation of the Old Bus Stand Pulwama, the need for improved road infrastructure, and the introduction of sustainable e-bus connectivity in the town. The federation also highlighted gaps in street lighting, sanitation, and commercial space management that have been affecting both traders and residents alike.

Minister Sharma acknowledged the concerns and stated that the revitalisation of the Old Bus Stand will be prioritised to enhance intra-town transportation and ease congestion in the market areas. He further emphasized the government’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility, announcing that e-bus services would soon be introduced in a phased manner across Pulwama to promote eco-friendly transport options.

Apart from civic and transport issues, the minister also addressed the growing demand for better sports infrastructure. He assured the participants that the district’s youth deserve modern facilities, and steps will be taken to upgrade existing sports grounds and introduce new training initiatives.

Later in the day, Minister Sharma met with delegations from Tral and a group of local sports coaches. The delegations from Tral submitted a memorandum outlining the area’s specific development needs, while the coaches highlighted the necessity for coaching support, training equipment, and better coordination with sports authorities.

Minister Sharma gave a patient hearing to all the stakeholders and assured that their concerns would be forwarded to the relevant departments with instructions for swift action. He reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to ensure balanced regional development, with special focus on civic infrastructure, youth empowerment, and transport modernization.

The meetings were widely appreciated by local stakeholders as a much-needed platform for dialogue and accountability, setting the stage for more responsive governance in South Kashmir.
