Nanded, Maharashtra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Maharashtra’s Nanded district and announced financial assistance for the victims and their families.
The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each person who died in the accident. Those injured will receive ₹50,000 each.
The accident occurred on Thursday evening on the Nanded-Bhokar road, where a passenger van collided head-on with a truck.
Six Killed, Eight Injured
According to police, at least six people were killed, while eight others sustained critical injuries in the collision.
The accident took place at around 7 pm near Sitakhandi Ghat, an official said.
The passenger van was travelling from Nanded towards Bhokar when it collided with the truck. The impact was severe and left the van badly damaged.
Following the crash, local residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue passengers who were trapped inside the wreckage. The injured were subsequently shifted to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
PM Modi Expresses Grief
Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The PMO said the ₹2 lakh assistance would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased person, while the injured would receive ₹50,000 each under the PMNRF.
The financial assistance is expected to provide immediate support to families dealing with the aftermath of the accident.
Police Probe Underway
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Officials are examining how the passenger van and truck came into contact and what factors may have contributed to the accident. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
The authorities are also focused on ensuring that those injured receive necessary medical care.
