On November 7, Union Health Minister highlights the importance of cancer prevention, recognising early warning signs and accessing timely screening and treatment

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has urged citizens to strengthen awareness about cancer prevention, recognise early warning signs and prioritise timely screening and treatment on the occasion of National Cancer Awareness Day.

In a social media message marking the day, the Health Minister emphasised that public awareness and access to screening facilities remain essential in addressing the growing challenge of cancer. He encouraged people to undergo recommended screening for common cancers, particularly oral, breast and cervical cancer.

Nadda stressed that early detection and timely medical intervention can play an important role in improving cancer management and treatment outcomes.

Health Minister Highlights Importance of Preventive Healthcare

Highlighting the role of lifestyle choices in reducing cancer risks, the Minister advised citizens to avoid tobacco and alcohol consumption, exercise regularly and maintain a healthy and balanced diet.

He also urged people not to ignore unusual or persistent symptoms and to seek medical advice whenever they notice changes that may require medical evaluation.

The appeal aims to encourage individuals and families to adopt preventive healthcare practices and make regular health check-ups an important part of their routine.

Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to Support Cancer Screening Awareness

The Health Minister encouraged citizens to visit their nearest Ayushman Arogya Mandir or healthcare facility to obtain information about available cancer screening services.

Ayushman Arogya Mandirs serve as important centres for delivering comprehensive primary healthcare, including preventive services and screening for non-communicable diseases.

Improving awareness and access to screening at the community level can help people seek medical attention and appropriate referrals at an early stage.

National Cancer Awareness Day Observed on November 7

National Cancer Awareness Day is observed across India every year on November 7 to highlight the importance of cancer prevention, early diagnosis and access to treatment.

The observance seeks to encourage public participation in cancer awareness initiatives, reduce misconceptions surrounding the disease and promote informed healthcare decisions.

Through his message, Nadda reiterated the importance of collective efforts involving individuals, healthcare professionals and communities in strengthening cancer awareness.

The focus on preventive healthcare, timely screening and early medical consultation remains central to India’s efforts to address cancer and improve access to healthcare services.
