Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday attended the ‘Honour & Excellence 2026’ Annual Awards Ceremony organised by the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society (DJSES) at the Convention Centre, Jammu, as the Chief Guest.
The ceremony celebrated academic achievements of meritorious students, recognised the dedicated services of staff members and honoured distinguished alumni for their contributions in various fields.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister appreciated the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society for its continued contribution to the education sector through its network of 24 schools spread across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He acknowledged the institution’s role in providing quality education and nurturing skilled, responsible and socially conscious citizens.
Omar Abdullah highlighted the importance of educational institutions in shaping the future of society, stating that education should go beyond the classroom and focus on the overall development of students. He emphasised that schools play a significant role in building character, encouraging academic excellence, promoting equal opportunities and instilling strong ethical values among young learners.
The Chief Minister further stressed that education must serve as a foundation for creating an inclusive, compassionate and progressive society. He underlined the need for educational institutions to provide an environment where students from different backgrounds receive opportunities to learn, grow and realise their potential.
The awards ceremony brought together students, teachers, school administrators, alumni and other distinguished guests to celebrate achievements and acknowledge the contribution of educators towards society.
By recognising academic merit, dedicated service and alumni accomplishments, the annual event highlighted the importance of encouraging excellence and strengthening the relationship between educational institutions and the communities they serve.
The programme also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the role of teachers and educational organisations in shaping future generations through knowledge, discipline and values.
