APRIL 10: On the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, who is revered for his timeless teachings of non-violence, truth, and compassion. The Prime Minister expressed his deep respect for Bhagwan Mahavir, highlighting that his ideals continue to inspire and guide millions of people around the world.

In his tribute, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the universal appeal of Bhagwan Mahavir’s teachings. “We all bow to Bhagwan Mahavir, who always emphasized non-violence, truth, and compassion. His ideals give strength to countless people across the globe,” Shri Modi remarked. He further acknowledged the significant role played by the Jain community in preserving and promoting these principles, noting that they have excelled in various fields and made meaningful contributions to society. “The teachings of Bhagwan Mahavir have been beautifully preserved and popularized by the Jain community, who have continuously worked towards the welfare of all living beings,” he added.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the efforts of the Government in fulfilling the vision of Bhagwan Mahavir, focusing on the cultural and educational preservation of Jainism. “Our Government will always work to fulfil the vision of Bhagwan Mahavir,” he affirmed. One of the major steps in this direction was the conferring of Classical Language status on Prakrit last year. This decision was met with widespread appreciation and is seen as a significant recognition of the rich intellectual and spiritual heritage of the Jain community.

Prakrit, the language in which many of Bhagwan Mahavir’s teachings were originally written, holds immense historical and cultural importance. The Government’s decision to grant it Classical Language status aims to preserve this ancient language and promote its study, thereby ensuring that the wisdom of Jainism continues to be accessible to future generations.

Through these efforts, the Government seeks to honor the legacy of Bhagwan Mahavir, whose philosophy of ahimsa (non-violence) and satya (truth) has transcended centuries and continues to shape the moral fabric of society. Prime Minister Modi’s tribute serves as a reminder of the enduring relevance of Mahavir’s teachings in today’s world, where compassion, peace, and ethical living are more important than ever.

This Mahavir Jayanti, as India reflects on the life and teachings of Bhagwan Mahavir, the nation is reminded of the significance of his message of peace, tolerance, and universal well-being.
