OCT 01:On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the Special Swachhata Campaign 5.0 at Nehru Park, New Delhi, highlighting remarkable achievements in e-waste disposal, office space clearing, and administrative efficiency. Over the past four years, ₹3,296.71 crore has been generated from e-waste and scrap disposal, while more than 696.27 lakh sq. ft. of office space has been freed for productive use. Additionally, over 137.86 lakh files have been closed or weeded out, and 12.04 lakh cleanliness sites identified and cleaned nationwide.
Dr. Singh personally led Shramdaan activities and a plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, symbolizing the government’s commitment to sustainability, civic responsibility, and good governance. He lauded the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and allied departments for driving these impactful outcomes.
Emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Dr. Singh noted that Swachhata has evolved into a behavioural revolution, with citizens actively participating in cleanliness drives and embedding hygiene as a core societal value. In recognition of their dedication, Safai Mitras were honoured with safety kits and sweets for their pivotal contribution to the campaign.
The Implementation Phase of Special Campaign 5.0, starting October 2, 2025, aims to institutionalize cleanliness drives, streamline administrative processes, and optimize public service delivery across government offices. Ministries and departments have uploaded ambitious targets, including review of physical and e-files, disposal of MP, PMO, and state government references, and addressing public grievances.
The National Archives of India will host an exhibition, “Sushasan aur Abhilekh”, showcasing historically valuable records curated during previous campaigns. Special Campaign 5.0 reaffirms the government’s focus on transparency, efficiency, sustainability, and civic engagement, carrying forward Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy while advancing the vision of a New India.
