JUNE 10: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has highlighted the rapid transformation taking place in India’s technical textiles sector, attributing the growth to key policy interventions such as the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme. The Prime Minister shared an article that outlines how these initiatives are shaping the sector’s trajectory and positioning India as a rising global force in the domain.

In response to a post shared by Union Minister Shri Giriraj Singh on the platform X, Prime Minister Modi wrote,
“India’s technical textiles sector is witnessing rapid growth, driven by key initiatives like the National Technical Textiles Mission and the PLI scheme. These efforts are boosting manufacturing, innovation and exports, positioning India as a global leader, writes Union Minister Shri @girirajsinghbjp.”

The technical textiles sector—spanning applications in defence, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, and aerospace—is undergoing a revolutionary transformation. The NTTM, launched with the objective of strengthening research, innovation, and skill development in this niche industry, is enabling India to build a strong foundation for value-added textile production.

Simultaneously, the PLI scheme is playing a catalytic role in attracting investments, scaling up manufacturing capabilities, and incentivizing exports. With dedicated financial support and policy stability, many Indian firms are now entering the global technical textiles supply chain, offering high-performance products that meet international standards.

Industry experts have noted that India’s competitiveness in the technical textiles space is rising due to the availability of skilled manpower, improved R&D infrastructure, and government support that encourages industry-academia collaboration. The government’s proactive efforts in standardization, quality certification, and market outreach are also opening new doors for Indian products in international markets.

As demand for advanced textiles grows worldwide across sectors like protective gear, medical fabrics, geotextiles, and automotive textiles, India’s technical textile manufacturers are seizing the opportunity to innovate and scale.

Prime Minister Modi’s endorsement reflects the government’s broader vision to make India a global manufacturing hub across sunrise sectors. As the technical textiles industry surges ahead, it is poised to become a significant pillar of India’s industrial growth, innovation economy, and export success.
