NOV 07: The Ministry of Railways commemorated the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram” with a special ceremony at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture. The event was graced by Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with senior railway officials including Shri R. Rajagopal, Member (T&RS), and Smt. Aruna Nayar, Secretary, Railway Board.
A mass singing of “Vande Mataram” was held by railway officials in sync with the live broadcast of the national event organized by the Ministry of Culture. Participants later listened to the Prime Minister’s address, reflecting on the enduring legacy of the national song.
In his remarks, Shri Vaishnaw described “Vande Mataram” as “the proclamation of India’s consciousness for the past 150 years,” emphasizing its timeless role in inspiring patriotism and unity.
Similar commemorative events were organized across railway zones and divisions. At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, a special function led by General Manager Shri Vijay Kumar witnessed enthusiastic participation by staff and passengers alike. The spirit of the song also echoed through Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad, where Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway, led the rendition. In Northern Railway, officers and staff joined together at the Chief Public Relations Office to sing the national song in unison.
Composed by Bankimchandra Chatterjee in 1875, “Vande Mataram” continues to symbolize India’s collective spirit and freedom struggle. The Ministry’s nationwide celebration paid homage to this immortal anthem of patriotism, unity, and national pride.
