Rajeev Ranjan Stresses Importance of SBDUs and BHUs in Fostering Entrepreneurship in Jammu at Training Program’s Conclusion

MARCH 27: The Labour and Employment Department successfully concluded a three-day technical training program for Small Business Development Units (SBDUs) and Business Help Desk Units (BHUs) at Udyog Bhawan, Jammu. The training was aimed at enhancing the capabilities of business development units in the region, with a focus on fostering entrepreneurship and maximizing the impact of the Mission YUVA initiative. Rajeev Ranjan, the Secretary of the Labour and Employment Department, was the chief guest at the event.

In his keynote address, Ranjan emphasized the critical role that SBDUs and BHUs play in encouraging and supporting entrepreneurship. He urged the participants to adopt a positive mindset, emphasizing that such an approach would significantly enhance the overall impact of Mission YUVA. His address highlighted the importance of these units in driving the economic development of Jammu and Kashmir by supporting small businesses and startups.

The training program provided valuable insights into the government’s mission to promote entrepreneurship throughout the region. A total of 266 participants from SBDUs and BHUs at both district and sub-division levels attended the event. These units are vital in facilitating the establishment and growth of new businesses, helping create a more robust and sustainable business ecosystem.

Shahzad Alam, Director of Employment and Mission YUVA, also addressed the attendees, underscoring the importance of aligning the efforts of the SBDUs and BHUs with the government’s objectives in launching Mission YUVA. He encouraged the participants to carefully review the baseline survey report and the approved Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Project YUVA. This would help them gain a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities in ensuring the successful implementation of the program.

Dr. Murtaza Rashid, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for Mission Youth/YUVA, provided an in-depth overview of Mission YUVA. He outlined the program’s four strategic pillars: Ecosystem Creation, Capital, Capacity Building, and Connectivity, all designed to empower young entrepreneurs and foster sustainable business growth.

Mission YUVA, a flagship initiative of the Jammu and Kashmir government, aims to establish 137,000 entrepreneurial units, creating employment for 425,000 individuals over the next five years. This ambitious initiative is designed to build a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region.

The training program included detailed sessions on Mission YUVA’s objectives, the Yuva Portal and App, how to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPR), and the process of Credit Facilitation. Experts from esteemed institutions, including NABARD, J&K Bank, Skill Development, OSD, and GDI partners, led the sessions, offering participants invaluable insights into their roles in the successful implementation of the program.
