MAY 01: Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, convened a series of high-profile meetings with industry leaders in Mumbai to promote investment opportunities in the Northeast. This outreach is part of the lead-up to the Rising Northeast Investment Summit 2025, scheduled to be held on May 23–24 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Among the prominent industrialists who participated in these discussions were Mukesh Ambani (Reliance Industries), Kumar Mangalam Birla (Aditya Birla Group), and N. Chandrasekaran (Tata Sons). The Union Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming the North Eastern Region (NER) into a key driver of national growth by fostering a unified development strategy encompassing all eight states.

“Our aim is to integrate the region into India’s growth story by uniting all eight Northeastern states under a common development goal,” Scindia said. He stressed the importance of sustainable development through strong public-private partnerships and emphasized the government’s proactive steps to create an investor-friendly ecosystem in the region.

The minister also detailed several key initiatives launched by MDoNER, such as the creation of a High-Level Task Force involving all Northeast Chief Ministers and the establishment of dedicated Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) in each state to facilitate business growth.

During the session, Shri Dharmvir Jha, Statistical Advisor to MDoNER, presented data-driven insights into sectoral investment opportunities, including agriculture, handloom and textiles, and eco-tourism—areas with high growth potential unique to the region.

The interactions in Mumbai have set the stage for the upcoming Rising Northeast Summit 2025, which will bring together investors, government officials, and policymakers to unlock the region’s untapped economic potential. The summit aims to foster meaningful partnerships that will drive inclusive development, infrastructure enhancement, and job creation in the region.

This momentum marks a significant step in the Centre’s vision to elevate the Northeast as a vital growth corridor of India’s future economic landscape.
