APRIL 22: In a powerful display of unity, patriotism, and gratitude, more than 5,000 participants gathered at the Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, for the inaugural Soldierathon – a first-of-its-kind event themed ‘Run for Soldiers and Run with Soldiers’. The marathon served as a moving tribute to the indomitable spirit and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces.
Jointly organised by Army Hospital (R&R) and Fitistan – Ek Fit Bharat, the Soldierathon brought together a diverse group of attendees, including veterans, serving personnel, civilians, students, and fitness lovers. The event fostered a sense of community and national pride, as participants from all walks of life ran side-by-side with Indian soldiers.
The marathon featured three inclusive race categories: a 10 km timed run, a 5 km fun run, and a 3 km walk. Designed to ensure mass participation, the event welcomed people of all fitness levels, encouraging unity through physical activity. Participants drew inspiration from the soldiers running alongside them, whose perseverance and dedication to the nation continue to inspire millions.
The atmosphere was electric with patriotic energy as the event was ceremoniously flagged off by the Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr) VK Singh (Retd), in the presence of senior defence leadership. Dignitaries included the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, General Officer Commanding Delhi Area, DGMS (Navy), DGMS (Air), and the Commandant of Army Hospital (R&R).
Beyond being a celebration of national unity and physical fitness, the Soldierathon had a noble cause at its core. The event aimed to raise funds for the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre in Kirkee, Pune—a facility dedicated to the recovery, care, and rehabilitation of soldiers who have suffered life-altering injuries in the line of duty. The centre provides specialised support, therapy, and reintegration assistance to our nation’s bravest.
The overwhelming participation underscored a collective resolve to support the heroes who protect the nation’s frontlines. Soldierathon 2025 not only celebrated the courage of our Armed Forces but also sent a resounding message: the nation stands firmly behind its soldiers.
