Senior IAS Officer Arvind Shrivastava Appointed Revenue Secretary

MAY 01: Shri Arvind Shrivastava officially assumed charge as Secretary of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, following his recent appointment by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The appointment, announced on April 18, 2025, marks a significant addition to the senior leadership of the Ministry of Finance.

A seasoned Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1994 batch from the Karnataka cadre, Shri Shrivastava brings with him over three decades of administrative and economic policy experience across key sectors of governance.

Prior to this new role, Shri Shrivastava served in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) where he held the positions of Joint Secretary and later Additional Secretary. During his tenure at the PMO, he was closely involved in high-level policymaking and implementation monitoring, contributing to various national initiatives and reforms.

His earlier assignments also include serving as Joint Secretary in the Budget Division of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance. In that capacity, he played a vital role in formulating Union Budgets and overseeing public financial management.

Internationally, he worked with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as a Development Officer, gaining exposure to global development finance practices. At the state level, Shri Shrivastava held key portfolios in Karnataka, including Secretary of the Finance Department and Secretary of the Urban Development Department in Bengaluru. He also served as Managing Director of the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), where he was instrumental in planning and financing major urban development projects.

Known for his analytical approach and hands-on administrative style, Shri Shrivastava’s wide-ranging experience in finance, urban development, and international cooperation is expected to strengthen the Department of Revenue’s efforts in mobilizing resources, enhancing tax administration, and promoting fiscal discipline.

As he steps into this critical position, Shri Shrivastava is expected to steer crucial policy initiatives related to direct and indirect taxes, improve compliance frameworks, and contribute to the broader economic agenda of the Government of India
