MARCH 30: Emphasizing the crucial role of sports in shaping a progressive society, Jammu & Kashmir Minister Satish Sharma stated that sports are a powerful tool for youth empowerment and nation building. He was speaking at the annual sports day celebration held at PM Shri NB/Sub Bansi Lal Government High School in Maira Mandrian.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and members of the local community, reflecting a growing awareness about the importance of physical fitness and sports at the grassroots level. The vibrant atmosphere, filled with energy and competitive spirit, highlighted how sports activities are becoming an integral part of school   life in the region.

Chief Education Officer Ajeet Sharma and several officers from different departments were also present on the occasion, underscoring the administration’s commitment to promoting sports and youth development initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister stressed that youth are the backbone of society and that sports play a vital role in channelizing their energy in a positive direction. He noted that participation in sports not only enhances physical fitness but also instills discipline, teamwork, and leadership qualities among young individuals.

“Sports provide a platform for young minds to grow, compete, and excel. It is through such activities that we can nurture talent and prepare our youth to represent the nation at higher levels,” he said.

Highlighting the government’s vision, Satish Sharma said that sustained efforts are being made to build a strong and inclusive sports ecosystem across Jammu & Kashmir. He pointed out that the focus is on expanding sports infrastructure, strengthening youth engagement programmes, and integrating physical education more effectively into the academic system.

The Minister further added that special emphasis is being laid on identifying talent at an early stage, particularly in rural and remote areas. He noted that initiatives under the Youth Services & Sports Department are being intensified to ensure that young athletes, irrespective of their background, receive equal opportunities to excel.

He also urged students to actively participate in sports alongside their academic pursuits, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle. According to him, physical activity is essential not only for personal well-being but also for building a strong and resilient society.

The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where outstanding performers were felicitated with medals and certificates for their achievements. The recognition served as a motivation for students to continue pursuing excellence in both sports and academics.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, the Minister also laid the foundation stone for several developmental initiatives aimed at improving public infrastructure in the area. These projects are expected to enhance facilities for the local population and contribute to the overall development of the region.
