SEP 18: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a flagship subsidiary of Coal India Limited, marked the birthday of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Vishwakarma Jayanti by felicitating 75 coal mining workers with the SECL Vishwakarma Awards at its headquarters in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, on 18 September 2025. This first edition of the awards honoured workers engaged in mining operations, maintenance, supervision, and allied services for their dedication and exemplary contributions.
Union Minister of State graced the ceremony for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Tokhan Sahu, as Chief Guest, and MLA (Beltara) Shri Sushant Shukla as Guest of Honour. Shri Harish Duhan, CMD, SECL, presided over the event along with functional directors, trade union representatives, HoDs, officers, and employees. Shri Tokhan Sahu appreciated SECL’s initiative of launching the Vishwakarma Awards on this auspicious occasion, coinciding with the Prime Minister’s birthday.
The event also featured sapling plantation under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign and the administration of the Swachhata Pledge, marking the launch of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2025 across SECL headquarters and operational zones.
To extend the celebrations, SECL organized “SECL-17: Vishwakarma Seva Sankalp”, a special one-day campaign conducted across ten operational districts in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The campaign included seventeen welfare activities such as health check-up camps, blood donation drives, safety and vigilance awareness programmes, digital and financial literacy workshops, de-addiction awareness sessions, and plantation drives under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.”
The celebrations reaffirmed SECL’s commitment to workers’ welfare, sustainable practices, and inclusive community development, setting a strong example in the coal sector.
