MARCH 2: In a significant move to assess the development in the Bhalwal Tehsil, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, conducted an extensive tour today, focusing on the agricultural sector, revenue services, and the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) schemes in the area. The visit was aimed at reviewing key initiatives to enhance farming activities, improve revenue services, and ensure the successful implementation of vital water supply schemes.
During the tour, the Deputy Commissioner took a close look at the ongoing work under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He chaired a Pani Samiti meeting at the Water Supply Scheme Asserwan, where he interacted with local residents and their representatives to assess the quality of water supply and gauge the overall impact of the JJM schemes. The feedback from the locals was critical in evaluating how effectively the water supply systems were serving the community. In addition to the water supply schemes, the DC also inspected the drilling of a tubewell and the construction progress of essential infrastructure, including the pump room building and sump tank at Karwanda. These projects are a part of the larger efforts under the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure a sustainable and reliable water supply to rural areas.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the implementation of various schemes aimed at boosting the agricultural sector in the region. He visited a polyhouse farm in Assarwan Mishriwala to observe high-tech vertical farming practices. The farm produces organic crops such as Kashmiri chilli, guava, papaya, and turmeric. The DC took time to interact with the farmers, gathering feedback on the success of these agricultural initiatives and understanding the challenges faced by the farming community. Self-Help Groups involved in the agricultural activities were also highlighted, showcasing their contributions to enhancing farming productivity.
In addition to the agricultural and water supply initiatives, the DC focused on the revenue services in Bhalwal Tehsil. He reviewed the status of land record updates, including Jamabandis and Girdawaris, and closely examined the functioning of the Tehsil Office. During this, he was briefed by SDM Jammu North, Athar Amin, and Tehsildar Bhalwal, Monika Sharma, on various ongoing revenue matters.
The visit was aimed at ensuring that the ongoing development initiatives are progressing as planned, with a focus on improving the living conditions and services for the residents of Bhalwal. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among various departments to ensure that these initiatives reach their full potential in enhancing rural livelihoods and strengthening state revenues.
