Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir:
In the wake of the tragic Ramnagar bus accident that claimed 21 lives, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police in Udhampur organised a road safety awareness programme for commercial drivers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The initiative was led by Aijaz Parvez, who sensitised drivers about the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and maintaining responsible driving practices.
During the session, drivers were cautioned against common violations such as overloading, over speeding, incomplete documentation, and negligent driving—factors often responsible for fatal accidents. Officials stressed that strict compliance with safety norms is essential to safeguard lives on the roads.
Addressing the participants, Parvez urged drivers to remain vigilant and prioritise passenger safety at all times. He highlighted that awareness and discipline behind the wheel can significantly reduce the risk of accidents.
The programme also included guidance on vehicle maintenance, emergency response, and the importance of proper documentation to ensure legal compliance. Drivers were encouraged to adopt a safety-first approach and avoid risky behaviour while operating commercial vehicles.
Officials noted that such awareness drives are crucial, especially after major accidents, to reinforce the importance of road safety among drivers and the general public.
Participants appreciated the initiative and pledged to follow traffic rules strictly to prevent future tragedies. Authorities reiterated that continued education, enforcement, and public cooperation are key to improving road safety in the region.
The awareness drive reflects a proactive effort by the traffic police to address safety concerns and ensure that lessons are learned from past incidents.
