APRIL 5: Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC) Udhampur, Lal Chand, today inaugurated the blacktopping work on the 6 km National Highway to Mahamaya Mandir road. The project, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 7.38 crore, marks a significant step in enhancing infrastructure in the region. The foundation stone for this road was laid in March 2024.
Present at the launch event were MLA Udhampur East, Ranbir Singh Pathania, DDC Udhampur-I Puran Chand, DDC Tikri Ashu Sharma, and several officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), including AEE and JE. The launch of this work is the first among 13 projects where blacktopping work is being initiated.
This project was prioritized by the District Development Council under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) funding for the financial year 2023-24. Another project under the same funding scheme, the bridge over the Dhandyal Nallah at the Krimachi Debrah road, has already been completed and is now open for commuters, marking a significant milestone in infrastructure development for the region.
The blacktopping of the road from the National Highway to Mahamaya Mandir is particularly noteworthy due to its cultural and tourism significance. The improved road will enhance connectivity to the Mahamaya Mandir, a key religious site, benefiting pilgrims and visitors. The upgraded infrastructure will not only make travel more comfortable but also contribute to boosting tourism and economic activity in the area.
The projects initiated under this sanction are designed to address critical infrastructure needs, improve regional connectivity, and support the local economy. The completion of the Dhandyal Nallah Bridge is a testament to the commitment to improving essential services and infrastructure for the people of Udhampur.
At the launch event, Chairman Lal Chand congratulated the local community for their patience and support for the developmental initiatives. He urged the officials concerned to ensure that the work is completed with the highest standards of quality. The locals, in turn, expressed their gratitude to the Chairman for addressing their long-standing demand for better road connectivity.
The overall development of these infrastructure projects is expected to play a key role in the region’s growth, enhancing access to essential services and improving the travel experience for both locals and tourists. With these ongoing initiatives, Udhampur is set to witness a significant transformation in its infrastructure landscape.
