OCT 1:The Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, has launched preparations for Special Campaign 5.0, scheduled from 2nd to 31st October 2025. The campaign will primarily focus on Swachhata (cleanliness), systematic record management, and sustainable disposal of e-waste, aligning with the E-Waste Management Rules, 2022.
Special Campaign 5.0 builds upon the achievements of Special Campaign 4.0, which was conducted in October 2024. During the previous drive, the Department and its affiliated organizations — National Service Scheme (NSS), Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) — successfully reduced pendency in matters related to Member of Parliament references, Parliamentary assurances, public grievances, and appeals. Additionally, large-scale record and scrap disposal exercises were undertaken to streamline administrative processes.
A hallmark of Special Campaign 4.0 was the extensive cleanliness drives, including a nationwide beach cleaning programme led by Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya at Porbandar Beach, Gujarat. The initiative witnessed the participation of 6.22 lakh MY Bharat volunteers across 700 beaches and coastal areas. Under the “Swachhata Hi Sewa” initiative, more than 1.29 lakh activities were organized nationwide, resulting in the collection of 15.82 lakh kilograms of plastic waste. Over 15,400 sub-events were registered on the MY Bharat portal, supported by campaigns on Behavioural Change Communication to promote awareness and participation.
For Special Campaign 5.0, the focus will remain on addressing pending matters from the Prime Minister’s Office, MPs, and State Governments, along with systematic review of records, scrap disposal, and enhanced cleanliness initiatives in offices and field units. Youth volunteers from NSS and MY Bharat organizations will once again play a pivotal role in mobilizing communities, spreading awareness, and participating in cleanliness drives.
The Department of Youth Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable governance, with the campaign designed to further the vision of the Swachh Bharat Mission while promoting responsible waste management practices across the nation.
