JUNE 16: In a vibrant display of unity, energy, and public spirit, more than 1,000 cyclists participated in the Cyclothon – Pedal for Peace event held in Srinagar. The event was formally flagged off by Minister Satish Sharma and served as a strong symbol of peace, youth empowerment, and community solidarity across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The cycling event saw participation from people across age groups, with a significant number of youth, students, fitness enthusiasts, and civil society members joining in. The route, lined with spectators and supporters, reflected the growing public enthusiasm for positive community initiatives and peaceful civic engagement.

Minister Sharma, in his address, emphasized that such events are not only important for promoting fitness and environmental awareness but also serve as powerful platforms to bring communities together in a spirit of harmony. “Peace and unity are the cornerstones of progress. Events like these strengthen our social fabric and highlight the strength and spirit of our youth,” he stated.

The Cyclothon is part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting physical well-being, mental health, and social harmony. In the coming weeks, similar events focusing on peace, fitness, and community bonding will be held regularly across various districts of the Union Territory.

Organizers highlighted that Pedal for Peace is more than just a cycling event — it is a call for collective action towards building a peaceful, active, and united Jammu and Kashmir. The message resonated throughout the morning as cyclists rode in unison, carrying banners and wearing T-shirts that bore messages of peace, environmental responsibility, and youth empowerment.

The overwhelming public participation also underlined the growing desire among citizens for a peaceful and progressive environment. Local authorities provided full logistical support, ensuring safety, hydration points, and medical assistance along the route.

Community leaders, local sports associations, and volunteers worked together to make the event a resounding success. Their coordination reflects the growing momentum behind grassroots initiatives that focus on positivity, wellness, and civic engagement.

As weekly fitness and peace campaigns begin to roll out across the Union Territory, the Cyclothon – Pedal for Peace stands as a proud example of how sport and community participation can foster unity, promote healthy lifestyles, and reinforce the collective pursuit of lasting peace.
